ATID-622 The Sadness Hole: Popular Sisters
Is there not a pair of sisters in the town where you live? Come to think of it, if you try to remember, you can probably find one or two such pairs right away. When you were going through adolescence, did you ever look at sisters like that and think about them in some way? If you are a man, perhaps you thought about it even more strongly. What exactly is the relationship between these sisters, who grow up and live together, as women? In this story as well, the sisters have a conflict that outsiders cannot easily see. The younger sister, Miu, has long carried a sense of inferiority toward her older sister, Nanami, since her teenage years. This is because their mother constantly compared Miu to Nanami and kept scolding Miu. Compared to your big sister, you are always… That was always her mother’s favorite line. Because of that, Miu became overly conscious of Nanami, and before long, that feeling gradually turned into resentment. It is not that her sister directly criticized her. Nor did she try to advise her. In a sense, it was the result of Miu’s own one-sided self-consciousness. Even so, the hatred that began in Miu’s adolescence continued to smolder quietly and steadily grow as she reached marriageable age. This story begins there.
Now then, let us talk about hole-mote, or rather, the hole-mote girl. The men around her keep coming on to me in an excessive way, flirting and pestering her to an annoying degree. Do they find me that attractive? Am I so appealing as a woman that they cannot leave me alone? She believes she is popular with men. But from the men’s point of view, she is simply a convenient woman. If they flatter her a little and shower her with attention, she will easily go along with them. To put it bluntly, she is treated as an object for casual use. But she herself does not realize it. Women of the same sex may see her as a painfully self-aware woman. That said, there are also some who, while vaguely sensing that others see them that way, deliberately play the role of the painfully self-aware woman. They do not want troublesome romance, do not want a relationship dependent on men, and do not want a life tossed around by men. They want a more easygoing relationship, and to live only with a clear, physical arrangement. In that sense, there are indeed women who want to be independent women. These are women who intentionally act like hole-mote girls.
Now, here is the key question. Are the sisters in this story truly hole-mote in the literal sense? Or are they merely pretending to be? What do you think?
